Dionysis Papagiannopoulos was born 1912 in Diakofto and died in 1984. He studied
at the dramatic faculty of the Greek National Theatre where he
made his debut as an actor in 1938 in “King Leer”. He acted
types of theatre plays and acted in more than 120 films in supporting
and other memorable roles. One of his exquisite leading roles
in cinema was “Mr.Giorgis is educated” (1977) which was the last
film made by Finos Films and marked the end of an era. He also
worked for television. One of his biggest successes was his role
once again as Mr Giorgis for the television show “Fun fair”.
From 1961 and on he created his own theatre group and acted
in very important roles of Modern Greek comedy; most
of those plays
were adapted for the cinema. He was an actor with an enormous
talent and incredible acting techniques. He always left a strong
impression in all the roles he had, comical and dramatic. Remarkable
was his work in the play of Iakovos Kambanellis “Our Big Circus”
where he portrayed Kolokotronis, Venizelos and Karagkiozis.
Also he left a very good impression for his work in his
“A Voyage to Cythera” directed by the great Theo Angelopoulos.
